A New Website, A New Learning Platform And A Hundred Monkeys!

Fantastic! As of Monday 20th August 2018 the new and improved Helios Website is finally up and running and ready to accept new student registrations.

A long journey…

This has been a very long journey – between 2 and 3 years, with technology challenges and even multiple changes of technology platform until we found something that works and fits our needs. It’s a challenge building a fully-fledged multi-user, multi-tier membership system and fully functional learning platform on WordPress (not many other choices that fit the bill!). Thanks to Paul Leppard, our amazing webmaster and Topher Halden, Paul’s technical guru, we are now ready for “prime time.” My sincere thanks go to Paul and Topher for the work they have done – particularly to Paul who has been with me all the way on this three-year journey to get it all up and running.

A bigger agenda…

So now, a different kind of hard work starts – attracting new students and creating a vibrant and effective online community of like-minded individuals committed to both their own spiritual development and to raising the consciousness of the planet. As our work evolved, and the learning platform began to take shape, so did our vision of what Helios stands for. Originally I guess we were out to teach teach magic and to do that as effectively as we can. But now it’s a bigger picture than that – it isn’t just about magic – that’s just the vehicle (albeit a very important vehicle) for a bigger agenda.

A hundred monkeys…

Yes, “A Hundred Monkeys” is one of my favourite cafe’s in my beloved Glastonbury…  but that’s not what I’m talking about here! If you have read Michael Talbot’s “Beyond the Quantum” (Bantam Books, 1988) he describes the “Hundredth Monkey Syndrome”  in which a new behavior or idea is claimed to spread rapidly by unexplained means from one group to all related groups once a critical number of members of one group exhibit the new behavior or acknowledge the new idea (as typified by Japanese Monkeys learning to wash sweet potatoes in the sea). In many ways this same effect is seen spiritually dubbed as the “Maharishi Effect.” This effect became observable through research conducted by the Maharishi International University on Transcendental Meditators in the late 1960’s. They found that when a critical mass of meditators meditated in a given location (approximately 1% of the population), crime rates in that location began to fall. It must be said that the original research is subject to some controversy but anecdotally, from what we know of a magical, holographically connected universe, (not to mention Jung’s “collective unconscious”) this phenomonen makes sense (at least to non-“muggles”).

A new mission…

So how does this affect Helios? As I started to think through what we are doing, in creating a learning platform and online community fit for 21st century learning modalities, I realised that we can expand our reach across the globe. Much more easily than in the 19th and 20th centuries when magic and occult lessons were actually printed on real paper and delivered by “snail mail”. Now we don’t have the limitations of trying to explain complex concepts only on paper, or having to deliver via snail mail, or even having to wait weeks for feedback on our lessons. It’s a whole new magical training world, and with an extended reach comes a potentially larger opportunity to influence people through training in “The Mysteries.” But what are we doing really? We are simply teaching people how to raise their level of vibration, and to connect to finer levels of creation. That and a whole lot more, of course… and in the process initiating true Priests and Priestesses of the Ancient Mysteries, able to carry the Torch of the Mysteries on to the next generation of spiritual seekers who come after us.

Honouring the legacy of Ernest Butler & Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki…

This was definitely part of Ernest Butler’s wish, the Founder of the Servants of the Light (“SOL”), the “mother school” for Helios and a number of other magical schools. So now we (all the SOL daughter schools as well as SOL herself) have the opportunity and the responsibility to carry on Ernest’s work, albeit in a different fashion, each of the schools appealing to a different audience of seekers.

Imagine that between us we create many Priests and Priestesses of the Light, “Adepts” in the true sense of the word, who can collectively initiate the “Hundredth Monkey Syndrome” and start to manifest the “Maharishi Effect.” How would that affect our world? What effect might that have across the planet? Of course, we can’t measure it, but we can use our “inner senses” to get some kind of understanding of the effect of our work, and maybe in time see small changes in the world that are down to increased self-awareness of people, more understanding, people being kinder to each other and maybe even more people coming forward to study “The Mysteries” in  whichever tradition they are drawn to.

Well, we can but try, and this is a small but important step along that road…
